DKV Pushes Deadline To End Of Week

AUTHOR: Matthew P.C. Holmquist | IN: Timberwolves | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Surprise!
Spanish news strikes again! After every major publication in Spain saying Rubio’s fate was to be determined in the next few hours, it looks like we won’t know Ricky Rubio’s future today after all. Last night we were lead to believe that DKV was waiting until tonight to have their board meeting and decide on the fate of Rubio. Well, they did meet up, and they discussed their two opportunities for Ricky. However, this apparently lead nowhere, and they decided they needed more time to think about the Wolves’ offer.
It is quite obvious, through their indecision, that DKV would [...]

DKV To Make Decision Tomorrow (Monday)

AUTHOR: Matthew P.C. Holmquist | IN: Timberwolves | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

We are (finally) heading into the final hours of the Wolves’ most compelling news story of the summer. Yesterday and today there have been numerous stories about how DKV decided on Friday that they would wait to accept Barcelona’s offer until they had heard out David Kahn and Co. Kahn went back to Spain for the third time this summer over the weekend to discuss a final offer to buyout Ricky Rubio. I’ve looked through a few Spanish papers over the weekend, and here are the details of the Wolves’ offer compared to the $3.7 Million offered by [...]

Rubio Update: 8/29

AUTHOR: Matthew P.C. Holmquist | IN: Timberwolves | COMMENTS: None Yet

As the summer has gone, one thing has remained constant about the Timberwolves. The constant flow of un-sourced “facts” about the Rubio standoff. Today, there was more news from Spanish papers about Ricky Rubio, but as we have learned over the summer, take it with a grain of salt since most of the information on this topic has shown to have more rumor than substance from it. Here is what was “announced” today:
ElPunt
DKV Joventut board met with club president Jordi Villacampa yesterday and will not make a desicion about the future of Ricky Rubio until Monday.
Today, Villacampa will meet with [...]

1997 or 2010?

AUTHOR: Matthew P.C. Holmquist | IN: Timberwolves | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Looking back over the years, there was one time where the Timberwolves had as much potential on the roster as they do going into the oncoming season. The year the excitement was building was 1997. The Wolves had just acquired a very highly sought PG in a draft day deal in Stephon Marbury, and just the year before had drafted a Power Forward that was showing signs of dominance by the end of the season. The 1997 roster ended up being the first Timberwolves team that made the playoffs, and it seemed like it was only time before they would [...]

ESPN Says Flynn 2nd Best Chance At ROY

AUTHOR: Matthew P.C. Holmquist | IN: Timberwolves | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

In a recent article ESPN chose Blake Griffin unexpected! as the nearly unanimous choice as the rookie most likely to win the Rookie Of the Year award. Griffin ended up with 43 of the 53 votes cast with predictions of the winner. Our own J-Flynn was tied for second ZOMG NATIONAL RCOGNITION FOR THE WOLVES!?!?!? along with James Harden of the OKC Thunder with 3 votes. ESPN had this to say about Flynn:
Jonny Flynn
Flynn is generally considered the most NBA-ready rookie east of Blake Griffin, and he’d better be — he’ll be starting from day one for the Timberwolves. Unless, [...]

2004 Wolves: 7th Best Team To NOT Win It All

AUTHOR: Matthew P.C. Holmquist | IN: Timberwolves | COMMENTS: None Yet

Yahoo recently compiled a list of the best teams this decade to not win a title, and our notoriously underachieving hometown team made the list. While we may not have been the best team on that list, I feel our team could have finished better than 7th simply because we lost in 6 to the “Dream Team” (the Lakers… again.. ugh.) without our arguably best second best player.
While I would have had the Kings at #1 simply because the refs knocked them out of the playoffs, I would have had the Wolves ahead of Portland (#4) and LA’s “Dream Team” [...]

Love Making Serious Push For Team USA

AUTHOR: Matthew P.C. Holmquist | IN: Timberwolves | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

According to SI, the Big Twitter is now looking to add something new to his resume. Team USA Basketball player.
Kevin Love is known around the league as a superb rebounder for his age, and, for now, a high class role player. Team USA is finishing it’s roster off, and needs another big man to put next to Dwight Howard and Chris Bosh. The type of player that Coach K. has said he is looking for is the ultimate role player, which is exactly what you get with KLove. He can hit the open J, make superb passes, and has a [...]

QRich Racking Up Frequent Flyer Miles

AUTHOR: Luke Jensen | IN: Timberwolves | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Quentin Richardson is on the move for the 4th time this summer, and is only one trade short of being traded to a team in every division in just one summer as he has gone from the Atlantic (Knicks) to the Southwest (Grizzlies) to the Pacific (Clippers) to the Northwest (Wolves) and finally the Southeast Division (Heat) just leaving the Central Division unexplored for the oft-traded swingman.

Quentin Richardson was traded straight up for center Mark Blount. Both are on expiring contracts, but Blount’s is about $1.4 million smaller saving Glen Taylor a bit of money as both players are pretty [...]

Rambis’ Letter To The Fans

AUTHOR: Matthew P.C. Holmquist | IN: Timberwolves | COMMENTS: None Yet

Dear Wolves fans,
I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am to be the head coach of the Timberwolves. I want to thank Glen Taylor and David Kahn for giving me this opportunity.
As dedicated Wolves fans, you have been through some tough seasons recently. Nobody likes losing, especially me. But when I look at the players on this team now and how we are positioned for the upcoming seasons, I am truly optimistic that we have a bright future. There is some outstanding young talent on our team — talent that we can develop and nurture.
I look forward to [...]

Kahn’s Comments To Fans On Rambis

AUTHOR: Matthew P.C. Holmquist | IN: Timberwolves | COMMENTS: None Yet

Dear Timberwolves fans and supporters,
I’m pleased to announce that we’ve reached an agreement in principle with Kurt Rambis to be our new head coach. The search was extensive and thorough, and I’m completely confident that Kurt is the right man to help us develop into a championship-caliber team.
Kurt played for Pat Riley and coached alongside Phil Jackson, arguably two of the three greatest coaches in NBA history. He is ready for this.
Each candidate for this job had three threshold issues they had to agree to in order to be considered:
(1) I want our franchise to become the league leader in [...]
