On Wednesday afternoon, the Wolves completed yet another summer trade. Another player has come and gone just during this offseason, and another player on last year’s roster will be playing for another team maybe next season. In return for Songaila and Brown, the Timberwolves receive Antonio Daniels and a 2014 2nd round pick. Daniels is in the last season in his contract, and could provide some much needed veteran depth for the Wolves this season at the guard position, while the 2nd round pick is most likely as a formality to make the deal look just a little bit better for the Wolves.
Most likely, the move is simply to move Songaila’s 2 year contract for an expiring, but it is possible that Daniels could crack the rotation as a career 7 and 4 player. Daniels’ contract adds $1.3 milliion to the Wolves’ payroll this year, but saves the wolves all of Songaila’s outrageous contract next year. A year the Wolves still expect to make a splash in the NBA’s Free Agency market.
