Today I was able to secure an interview with the always classy Eddie Johnson. Here is what he had to say about the state of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
DWW: The two brothers I work for and I am from the KC area. So obviously I have to ask you about your KC King days. What are your memories of playing for the Kings like?
EJ: Great memories because it was my entrance to the NBA. Kansas City deserves another opportunity for a franchise and hopefully they will get it.
Q: With the Sprint Center up and running do you think KC will get an NBA franchise again? if so can one be successful in Kansas city?
EJ: Yes it can be successful because they learned a valuable lesson the first time. Basketball is extremely popular in that area and would flourish
Q: What was Kurt Rambis like as a teammate?
EJ: He was a winner and great leader on and off the court. I didn’t play long with him but I loved all the intangibles he brought to our team in Phoenix
Q: Is he the man who can get the Timberwolves franchise turned around?
EJ: Coaching is one part. He needs some horses to win the race. They need some solid veteran pickups to go with their young players. Then his knowledge and experience will allow him to show his abilities as a coach
Q: Does Minnesota appear to be on the right track?
EJ: Yes. I love Jefferson and Love. They need shooters and they could fight for a playoff spot
Q: Do they have the personnel to run the triangle offense?
EJ: No and no one does unless his name is Kobe, Lebron, or Wade
Q: Are you a fan of the triangle offense?
EJ: Refer to answer above. And if not one of those three, no!
Q: What are your thoughts on the talent level of the Timberwolves?
EJ: Good young talent so yes they do; just need some veteran help.
Q: Do you think Minnesota will be an attractive spot this offseason for free agents? Or will Minnesota not be active at all?
EJ: When you lose there is always a possibility of a trade. So yes they will be active.
Q: Will Ricky Rubio ever play for the Wolves?
EJ: Yes, but I am not excited about a guy that will not go to extremes to play in our league.
Q: Lastly, I read an article the other day stating if the Wolves win the lottery they need to draft John Wall and trade Rubio. Do you think that is the only logical way or can Rubio and Wall coexist?
EJ: That would be a no brainer. Yes I would do it in a heart beat.
Thank you Eddie, I wish you the best. If you guys want to read more more of Eddie’s thoughts on a variety of NBA topics you can catch his articles on hoopshype.com. Thanks again Eddie!
