Patrick Patterson Scouting Report

Name: Patrick Patterson
Ht: 6’8” Wt: 235
POS: PF Class: Jr.
College: Kentucky

Overview: Patrick Patterson is an undersized PF who is very skilled and might have the best leadership skills of any player in the draft. He is a very good athlete for a PF. His feet are a bit heavy but he still very quick. I love how active Patterson is. Even when the ball is not in his hands he crashes the boards hard, sets screens, and helps out on D. He is constantly trying to get the ball thrown into him. Patrick not only makes his self better but makes his teammates better. It is hard not to love Patterson’s game. For a power forward he has very good range (41% from 3 thus far this season) and above average ball handling skills. On the next level he will not be a great rebounder but will still have success due to his work ethic and hustle.

Strengths: Range, hustle, basketball IQ, leadership ability, ball handling, quickness, help defense, and experience.

Weaknesses: Size and strength, is good at many things but great at nothing, needs to work on defensive footwork, and his feet are a bit heavy.

Comparable: David West

Big Board Ranking: 7

Topics: NBA Draft

Can’t imagine why you’d say PPat lacks strength. You must not have seen him since the summer of 2009. He worked out all summer in San Francisco and now looks like a beast. He couldn’t possibly be any stronger.
However, I do agree with your observation that he has heavy feet. I’ve always noticed.
He has great heart and leadership so he will help a team looking for all of the little things.

I say he lacks strength because when compared to other PF’s in the NBA he is below average. Pound for pound he might be real strong but he is also undersized for the NBA so it hurts him.
