The report is from ESPN’s Chris Broussard detailing the Timberwolves are interested in Golden State’s Anthony Randolph. Obviously, this is just a rumor and speculation, but let’s look at the information.
The Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors have had discussions about a trade that would send forward Anthony Randolph to the Timberwolves, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the talks.
No trade is imminent, but the Timberwolves have strong interest in acquiring the 20-year-old Randolph. The Warriors, who own the sixth pick in this year’s NBA draft, would like to move up to get a higher selection. Minnesota has the fourth pick.
Now, I am interested in Randolph for a second round pick , maybe a player and a second round pick, but nothing including the fourth pick in the draft. Even if they include the sixth pick.
There are a couple angles that can be taken from this rumor.
- The Wolves are not comfortable with the players they believe will be available at No. 4. So that implies the team is not impressed with Wesley Johnson or DeMarcus Cousins enough to use the pick on them.
- Secondly, if the Wolves are interested in Al-Farouq Aminu, they might feel they can get him at No. 6.
Would the trade be Randolph and the No. 6 pick for the No. 4? I am not sure the Warriors would go for that. I am not going to speculate here about the other players the Wolves may pick, but there is talent at the No. 4 spot. The organization may feel the same level of talent is there at No. 6, and why not get another player?
