The last time the Wolves had a road winning streak going, the team was still wondering how they were going to get Al Jefferson back to his near All Star year’s performance. Last night the Wolves put a dagger in the heart of the Rockets, nailing clutch shot after clutch shot to bring down yet another playoff bound opponent on the road. Two wins in two nights against good opponents is not a situation you see around Minneapolis very often anymore, but this time around the key to success was ball movement, defense and Kevin Love.
Love brought his 37 straight double double streak into the Tuesday night game along with a great Monday night performance against the Hornets where he went for 27 and 17. Against Houston he had a tougher go of it for the first three quarters, but his leadership and poise in the 4th not only lead him to his franchise record 38th double double, but the Wolves to their 13th win of the season.
The biggest shot of the night came from Wayne Ellington with 54 seconds left in the 4th. He drove to the left and stepped back for a three over Chuck Hayes that put the Wolves up 4. The Rockets then made a couple free throws before Love and Flynn put the dagger in with a pick and pop play that ended with a Kevin Love 3.
Love’s double-double puts him in front of KG and Stockton which means he is now in control of the longest such streak in the past 25 years. Next up is Moses Malone’s 44 straight from the 1982-83 season. Hopefully Love can keep it going Friday at Indiana.
