In the wake of the NBA officially cancelling games this week, Timberwolves first round draft pick Derrick Williams is officially considering playing overseas. Several NBA players, including All-Star Deron Williams, have already signed with teams outside of the U.S. in preparation for the lengthy lockout. Players typically are using the overseas option simply to keep a paycheck coming in, to see another country, or to keep their games sharp during this long layoff.
“I’m really going to be looking into it,” Williams told GoAZCats.com, a website that covers University of Arizona sports, about his intentions to play overseas if the lockout continues. “I think that’s the Plan B, especially at this point.”
