Nikola Pekovic continued to shock the Minnesota Timberwolves fanbase in leading the team to an 86-84 win over the Sacramento Kings. “Pek” displayed an amazing array of post moves and surpising nimbleness while outplaying the Kings stud bigman Demarcus Cousins. Pekovic ended up with a double-double of 23 points (9/12 shooting) and 10 rebounds. We all know he’s one the scariest looking Timberwolves of all-time, but who would have thought he’d emerge as the team’s go-to players while Kevin Love is out on suspension? Here’s to hoping this validates him as the permanent starter ahead of the dreadful Darko at center. “Pek” not only displays post moves that Darko could only dream about, but he also has a pulse in other aspects of the game as well. He rebounds very well, and seems to have the knack for picking up loose balls that Darko does not have. Note: I’m refusing to use the “Niiiiiikola!” nickname that most are going with. The Timberwolves P.A. announcer already uses a similar call-out for Darko during games, and we need to move on from that!
Ricky Rubio had another excellent floor game, 14 assists, 6 rebounds, 6 points, and 5 steals. He also made SportsCenter’s Top 10 with his pass through-the-legs to “Pek” for an ogre-dunk!……Derrick Williams made his third start of the season, and did fairly well. 14 points and 8 rebounds for the rookie, but he still looks a little hestitant out there. He did make a huge “3” in the final minute that put the Timberwovles ahead for good. Let’s hope this game sparks some confidence in him…..Michael Beasley still hasn’t figured out what an assist is…..I’m going to continue to ask what Wes Johnson contributes? 7 points, 1 steal, and 0 other stats in 24 minutes of action. Get that smirk off your face Wes. Congrats, you can dunk. So can 6’7 local hicks from the midwest. Hit an open jump shot, you’re an NBA player…..Congrats to Jimmer Fredette for running like a Duck the entire game.
The Timberwolves travel to Memphis to play the Grizzlies tonight.
