The Timberwolves who had just recently lost Ricky Rubio for the rest of the NBA season lost to the New Orleans Hornets, the worst-west team today, the night after that tragic event.
Tonight the Wolves look to take revenge as they head down to the Big Easy and try to get an easy will from the lowly Hornets. During their previous meeting last month (March 10), Kevin Love tallied 31 points and pulled down 16 rebounds despite a 89-95 loss at Target Center. Nikola Pekovic also had a great night as he was able to notch 21 points together with 11 rebound. However, those stats still weren’t able to prevent a loss to the worst team in the Western Conference. The Hornets’ leading scorer was Chris Kaman (20 points) followed by now-captain Jarrett Jack (17 points). It was a tight game throughout the entire game but the Hornets just took control and executed as well as any good West team would in the 4th quarter when it mattered the most. The Wolves, just a day after losing starting point guard Ricky Rubio, were obviously out of sync and their rhythm was just broken.
After a month of adapting to playing without Ricky Rubio the Wolves have changed their style of play and still manage to win some games, especially against teams under .500 or non-playoff bound teams like the Hornets who have just won 4 games since meeting the Timberwolves last month. The Hornets currently have a record of 14-41 while the Wolves are 25-31.
Tonight will certainly be a good game in New Orleans where the Wolves try to take revenge while the Hornets are desperately trying not to embarrass themselves even further.
The match-up for me to watch is Kevin Love going against Chris Kaman. However the Wolves must watch out for big plays by Jarrett Jack who has recently been the main man for the Hornets.
My prediction for the winner is the Hornets. Sorry Timberwolves.
