Trade Possibilities Come Draft Night

With the draft just 3 days away, rumors are bound to start swirling.  In fact, Michael Beasley’s name is being mentioned yet again with the Los Angeles Lakers.  The proposed trade would have sent Beasley to LA in exchange for backup center Jordan Hill and a future first round pick.  This would certainly help shore up the front court given Hill’s size and athletic ability that made him a #8 overall pick a few years ago.

David Kahn has also reportedly said to expect to see approximately 5 or 6 players from this year’s squad returning.  For most, this means that the keepers here are Kevin Love, Ricky Rubio, Nikola Pekovic, Derrick Williams, and some combination of Wes Johnson/Luke Ridnour/JJ Barea/Wayne Ellington.  Martell Webster, Beasley, Anthony Randolph, and Anthony Tolliver are free agents.  Brad Miller obviously retired.

Wolves fans can expect a busy offseason as owner Glen Taylor starts to gear up for an aggressive playoff run.  The team was as high as the #7 seed last year before Rubio’s ACL injury, and his return in combination with Kevin Love’s concussion recovery should serve as a good foundation for the team to build around.

Look for the team to do sign-and-trades with another team or two and look to build up assets on draft night.  All while picking up the perimeter player who can lift the team into the playoffs and beyond.

Minnesota has been involved in plenty of rumors, especially involving Pau Gasol.  Since rumors really mean nothing until something actually happens, it remains to be unseen what direction Mr. Taylor will take.

All I know is I’m going to watch every single draft pick on Thursday night, and in a deep draft like this, look for lots and lots of trades happening.  Remember to tune into ESPN this Thursday, folks!
