Derrick Williams Trade Rumors

David Kahn is reportedly leaving all of his options open this off season.  When questioned about a possible trade he did little that dispelled all the buzz at a Target Center press conference today.

“That he’s serious about taking care of himself and really doing the kind of things necessary that one must do in an offseason to become at the top of your field. … We have two untouchables, that doesn’t mean that everybody else is going to be traded this summer, it doesn’t mean that … we just don’t know.”

The two untouchables, of course, are All-Star forward Kevin Love and Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio.  Kahn is adamant about trading either of these two players, going as far as saying he hopes they retire as Timberwolves.

So with Williams kinda sorta maybe on the trade block, what can we expect the team to do?  There’s some murmuring around the front office that the Wolves might attempt to trade into the top-5 of the draft in an effort to obtain a wing player like Kentucky forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist or Florida guard Bradley Beal.

Though Williams is young (he just recently turned 21), he has demonstrated his work ethic and maturity as a basketball player.  He is attempting to lose enough weight to gain regular minutes at the small forward position.  Williams is reportedly down to 233 pounds, with a goal playing weight of 225.  Kevin Love lost over 20 pounds during the NBA lockout this past season, so maybe Derrick is taking some notes.

As I have preached over and over again in my previous few posts, it’s just something we’ll have to wait for until draft night.  If not, maybe sooner, as in tonight.
