Former Wolves Superstar, Kevin Garnett, Isn't Finished Yet

On March 30, 2012, I was lucky enough to watch Kevin Garnett live at Target Center take on his former NBA team, the Minnesota Timberwolves. Attending the game, with my Boston Celtics Kevin Garnett jersey on, and ready to betray my home state team in the Timberwolves for just one game (whenever it’s against Boston) and cheer for the team I deeply love, I never would have imagined how many Celtics, I mean Kevin Garnett, fans were in the building despite KG playing for another NBA team. Unlike LeBron James playing in Cleveland or even Vince Carter playing in Toronto, the love the fans that KG used to feel night in and night out back in the early through mid 2000’s are still there every time the 14-time All-Star arrives in the Twin Cities of Minnesota.

In 2007, the Timberwolves finally had to let go of their MVP/All-Star after 12 heart tearing yet determined seasons in Minnesota. Garnett landed in the most successful franchise in the league, the Boston Celtics. In his first stint with the Celtics in the 2007-2008 NBA season, KG managed to garner his first NBA championship, something he has wanted the people of Minnesota to have during his time in Minnesota.

Ever since being eliminated by LeBron James and the Miami Heat in the 2012 NBA playoffs, Kevin Garnett has been thinking of retiring from the NBA and officially ending his illustrious NBA career. Fans in Boston were all sad to hear this and were definitely not ready to see Kevin Garnett leave. For Minnesota fans as well, it would have been a sad day. The man that has been the face of the franchise since the day he stepped foot on the hardwood floors at Target Center, may no longer be found playing with passion on an NBA court with a ball on his hand.

Today, Kevin Garnett signed a 3-year, $34 million dollar contract with the Boston Celtics. KG isn’t going anywhere. Yes, he’s not playing in Minnesota anymore, but fans in Minnesota still love KG no matter where he is mainly because of what he has done for both the franchise and the entire state of Minnesota itself.

KG, it’s glad to know that I’ll get to see you again. I can’t wait for next season. Target Center, I’m coming to watch KG with the same amount of love the rest of the Minnesota fans still have for him.
