Gelabale to the Rescue

Lazar, it’s been real. From NBA.com:

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – The Minnesota Timberwolves have agreed to terms with French swingman Mickael Gelabale.

Terms of the deal were not immediately available, but Gelabale was expected to join the injury-filled Wolves on Friday after Lazar Hayward’s 10-day contract expires.

Gelabale has been playing for Valencia in the Spanish league. He is being brought in to add depth to a team that has been decimated by injuries to Kevin Love, Brandon Roy, Chase Budinger, Josh Howard and Malcolm Lee.

Gelabale does have some NBA experience. He played 109 games with the Seattle SuperSonics from 2006-08. He averaged just over 15 minutes per game in those two seasons before heading back overseas.

He will be the sixth Timberwolves player with an international background.

30 teams were notified, saying Gelabale wanted to return to the NBA, and that he wanted out by the end of January. Only one offered the opportunity to practically start the day after signing for whatever change Glen Taylor could find between his couch cushions.

After being so thoroughly dominated by the Clippers 2nd string on national television, there could be heard a death rattle down the corridors of First Avenue as Pek and then Shved limped off the court in pain.

Don’t fear, Wolves fans. A European rescue mission — by the French, no less — of a guy who shot 32% from 3 during his only previous stint in the league – 6 years ago.

Granted, he shot 43% his 2nd year in the league before tearing his… wait, he tore his ACL his 2nd year after 30-some games. Mickael, welcome aboard.

I can’t help but think of this when I read that press release:
