Tony Mitchell is a 6’9″, 230-pound 21 year-old from North Texas who just finished his sophomore year. He was the last guy the Wolves worked out the day of Flip’s presser and his college production fell off a cliff after one good month — sound familiar? Wesley Johnson, anyone?
But, of course, he’s freakishly athletic — defending in isolation he held opponents to 5% shooting so Woj has the Wolves nabbing him at 26.
Flip Saunders worked out Mitchell on his visit to Minnesota and left impressed, sources tell Y! Make no mistake: He has high-lottery gifts.
Parrot Jerry has him, as well…
Last guy Wolves had in for workout RT @WojYahooNBA: Some shying away from Tony Mitchell, but he could find a landing spot w/ Minn at No. 26.
So he’s a Gerald Wallace kind of small forward. Another long-term project, to be sure, but those defensive stats — isolation defense, over 2.5 blocks — are tough to ignore at 26.
Speaking of Wallace… also from Woj…
@WojYahooNBA Boston and Brooklyn discussing a blockbuster deal that would send Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to Nets.
Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA 2m
Possible Nets package includes expiring deal of Kris Humphries, Gerald Wallace, Tomike Shenglia and three first-round picks, sources tell Y!
Hopefully this kind of talk would dissuade any old-heads of their KG-to-the-Wolves-as-a-3rd-big-backing-up-Pek-and-Love fantasies. Let it go, people.
