NBA Free Agency: J.J. Redick to the Wolves?

Good news, per the AP…

With the NBA free agency period under way, the Minnesota Timberwolves are being aggressive in their search for help at shooting guard.

A league source told 1500 ESPN’s Darren Wolfson the Wolves have made J.J. Redick a multi-year offer, likely in the range of four years, $30 million. Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski first reported the offer.

The Wolves are also talking to the Dallas Mavericks about a potential sign-and-trade involving O.J. Mayo, according to sources, and they still have interest in Kevin Martin. Flip Saunders is believed to have the aforementioned three players at the top of his wish list.

A source also confirmed the Wolves have inquired about shooting guard Nick Young, who scored 10.6 points while shooting 37% from three-point range for the Philadelphia 76ers last season. Young played briefly in Washington when Saunders was the head coach.

That’s an aggressive offer averaging $7.5 million a year. Well done, Flip.

In other good news, for those of us super skittish about O.J. Mayo’s rumored popularity with Wolves management…

@Chris_Broussard: Source: Doc Rivers and OJ Mayo meeting for lunch today. Clips & Mavs currently talking about a Mayo-for-Bledsoe swap

I can’t stop laughing about this. Okay, I’m just smiling about it. Okay. We’ve downgraded to smirking. Sure, Bledsoe is the draw, but the idea Caron Butler could also be unloaded along with taking on Mayo isn’t an astonishing downgrade, but what do people see in Mayo that makes them think this is a good idea? The turnovers? The shot-happy quicksilver trigger-happy missed shottiness? I’m done.

The best thing about this news is it’s positive trajectory — the pursuit of shot making for Rick Adelman’s offense. Go Flip. Get ‘em.
