Turiaf Injured? Dieng it

Ronny Turiaf, well, perhaps you’ve already heard…

the thud and the official statement by the Wolves…

The Minnesota Timberwolves today announced that Ronny Turiaf underwent a MRI (Magnetic Resonance Image) this morning at TRIA Orthopedics in Bloomington, Minn. that revealed a radial head fracture of the right elbow. Turiaf will be re-evaluated later this week to determine an approximate time table for a return to the court.

The new Greg Stiemsma, Turiaf missed the injury ravaged season last year and is the first one down for extended time this year. Glad they found something more than the “contusion” everyone was reporting last night. The thing about contusions, they’re badass bruises so everyone think because they aren’t broken bones then they’re no bid deal, but anyway, now that this is an actual fractured bone I guess we would be happy if this were just a contusion so my point is moot. Ronny is out indefinitely, but speculation is six to eight weeks. Hopefully it’s less than that. (Get well soon, Ronny.)

What’s this mean for Minnesota’s depth chart? I hope you enjoyed Gorgui Dieng’s 14-minute debut against the Thunder — all four fouls, four missed free throws, single assist, missed field goal and two turnovers of it — because there’s more of that on the way. Dante Cunningham had found himself playing alongside Kevin Love and Corey Brewer before Turiaf went down, so there’s a good chance that will be a Rick Adelman favorite. There’s always the possibility Love could spend some time at center — which, after the success of last night’s Nikola Pekovic-centric offense, is an option that I hope isn’t used at all.
