In the much anticipated duel between super star power forwards Kevin Love and LaMarcus Aldridge, neither player played up to their usual caliber and it was hard to pick a winner. In fact, neither of these players were even the best player on their respective teams this game. Kevin Martin for the Wolves, and Robin Lopez for the Portland Trail Blazers had the greatest impact for their squads even though it may not show in the stat sheet.
Kevin Martin dropped a game high 30 points, along with 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 block. Martin shot the ball well, shooting 11-22 (50%) from the field and 6-10 (60%) from deep. Nikola Pekovic had his second straight double double tallying 23 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 assists. The aforementioned Love had a poor performance by his standards. Love had 15 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 assists. His scoring simply wasn’t on par with his season average this game. Ricky Rubio finished with 10 points, 11 assists, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals.
Robin Lopez was a force on both the offensive and defensive end for the Trail Blazers. Lopez had 15 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 block. Lopez patrolled the paint and looking at Love’s statistics this game, did a good fantastic job guarding the newly elected All Star starter. All Star starter snub, LaMarcus Aldridge had 21 points, but only managed to grab six rebounds, and could not contain Nikola Pekovic on the low block. Wesley Matthews had 18 points and 6 rebounds, but struggled from behind the three point line only making 1-5 (20%). Nicolas Batum had a great all around game with 13 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists. The reigning Rookie of the Year, Damian Lillard, had 14 points and 5 assists.
The Blazers won this game because of the strong play of their bench. The Wolves could only muster 15 points off the bench which will make it difficult to win games against the elite of the league, such as the Portland Trail Blazers.
