The Sacramento Kings will be at Target Center on Sunday evening to take on the Wolves. It will be the third of four contests between the two teams this season.
On January 15, the Wolves dropped one of their most disappointing games of the season in a home loss to the lowly Kings. The performance was more or less when Wolves fans realized that their squad was in trouble, and clearly was missing the proper components for a postseason run.
We all knew at that there were issues at that time, but those periodic, tantalizing, and impressive victories by the Wolves were enough to keep our hopeful attention. The Kings loss was followed shortly by a road victory in Golden State, for instance. And what a tease that game was.
The Wolves won in Sacramento a couple of weeks ago in fairly easy fashion. Kevin Love put up a 22-10-7, and Nikola Pekovic tallied 20 points and 9 rebounds in just 28 minutes after his return from injury. DeMarcus Cousins still had a huge game, ultimately finishing with 21 points and 17 rebounds. Rudy Gay and Isaiah Thomas each also topped the 20-point mark, but the rest of the Kings struggled mightily.
Tonight, the Wolves will need Rubio to win the match-up with Thomas, and Kevin Martin must continue his recent hot streak. If Love and Pekovic repeat their impressive performances from the last meeting between the two squads, Minnesota should be just fine.
Around the league this weekend: Memphis lost on Friday but won on Saturday, and Phoenix won earlier today in Toronto as well as back on Friday night. The Mavericks didn’t play on Friday or Saturday, and will visit Oklahoma City this evening at 6:00 CT.
The Wolves’ game also tips at 6:00 p.m., and we’ll have a recap for you here immediately afterwards. Let’s continue hoping for an improbably and entertaining sprint to the finish line, shall we?
