Happy Saturday, everyone. The Orlando Summer League begins today as free agency rolls on. Among other small bits of news, Spencer Hawes has signed with the Clippers for four years and $23 million.
There have not been many additional developments over the past day or so, other than Carmelo Anthony continuing his tour of those teams that are courting him most vigorously, and Pau Gasol and Luol Deng embarking on their tour of potential suitors. Both have met with the Miami Heat of late, and have no shortage of options for an ultimate destination.
The Utah Jazz acquired Steve Novak from Toronto in exchange for a future second-round draft pick and Diante Garrett. The sharpshooting forward still has two years and more than $7 million left on his contract, so he comes at a bit of a high price for the rebuilding Jazz.
In Wolves news, Yahoo!’s Adrian Wojnarowski is again raining on our parade.

Without the benefit of the Celtics’ draft picks, a trade with Boston has become infinitely less interesting. Unless, of course, Ainge’s creativity involves sending Marcus Smart to the Upper Midwest — highly unlikely, to be sure, but the Wolves should certainly engage with Boston if this year’s #6 overall pick is on the table as part of the package offered for Love.
It’s probable that the Celtics’ “relentless pursuit of creative ways to engage Minnesota” involve a three-team trade, as Ainge simply does not have the pieces at his disposal to acquire a top-six player. Jared Sullinger and Kelly Olynyk are nice pieces, but certainly not enough to procure a trade for Love.
The Orlando Summer League contests are on NBATV for much of the day today, as Nerlens Noel made his Philadelphia 76ers (Summer League) debut and played well. Newly acquired guard Pierre Jackson appeared to seriously injure his leg on a non-contact play, which is terrible news all around. Oklahoma City and Memphis are playing late this afternoon.
