A new era of Minnesota Timberwolves basketball has begun.
It certainly seemed to be the perfect way to usher in the new era; is there a more Minnesota-y, common person-y locale than the State Fair? The crowd was large, the weather was beautiful, and it felt fresh and new.
Stock media questions were asked and answered during the relatively short presentation, with the exception of Thad Young’s passionate nod to the lack of playoff appearances for the Wolves organization in the past ten years, stating that it’s been “too long”. To which, of course, the crowd expelled their hearty agreement to the acknowledgement that their newest player was already making.
The Wolves did a good job with the presentation. The excitement has been sufficiently built-up, and now we’re just stuck with a month of waiting until training camp begins, and another month after that before the games count.
One quick aside: the whole #EyesOnTheRise has already gotten a bit out of hand, and the simultaneous reintroduction of LaVine with the haul from the Kevin Love trade is strange, if only because it makes it seem like these four guys are the only players on the squad. Ultimately, I understand the reason (wanting LaVine to feel like he’s part of the new core of the team), but it seems weird.
That said, I would be lying if I said that yesterday’s press conference of sorts wasn’t exciting.
It was, and this is going to be a fun ride.
