Wolves notes: Brady Heslip, Robbie Hummel, and more

In the afterglow of the #EyesOnTheRise/New Wolves Order excitement, there has been a trickle of pretty random Wolves-related news.

ESPN 1500’s Darren Wolfson reports that former Baylor University sharpshooter and Wolves’ Summer League player Brady Heslip will receive a non-guaranteed training camp deal. Heslip shot three-pointers at a 43.7% clip over three years at BU, including a crazy 46.5% rate during the 2013-14 season while attempting 9.8 threes per 40 minutes.

Heslip is just 6′ 2″ and likely does not have the size or requisite abilities (outside of shooting, of course) to stick as an NBA player, but if a player can do one thing at an unquestionably NBA level, he’ll have a shot at making a roster. Barring significant injury to one or more players on the Wolves’ current roster, Heslip would appear to have the longest of shots at making the 15-man roster when camp breaks in late October.

Then again, the Wolves will not have a third-string point guard once J.J. Barea is traded or bought-out, and if Flip Saunders becomes convinced of Heslip’s ability to potentially run the offense in an emergency or blowout situation, than it’s a possibility he could be retained in some capacity.

In other random, weird, Wolves “news”, Robbie Hummel is apparently (maybe?) launching a hip-hop career with a new album this fall.

There seem to be a few problems with this. First, it’s hard to believe because, well, it is. Secondly, an album dropping this fall would have a mighty quick turnaround.

Oh, there’s the retirement announcement. Never mind, nothing to see here, folks. Have a great Thursday.
