The second half of the season is upon us and the Minnesota Timberwolves are set to make the playoffs for the first time since 2003-04′.

Who would have imagined the Minnesota Timberwolves would even be sitting in this position this far in the season. Ask anyone a few years ago and they’d probably lose there mind if they knew they would be this successful in the 2017-18 season. It definitely helps the process when you speed things up by signing and trading for veteran players.

The Wolves had plenty of assets last season and they saw the opportunity to go out and trade for All-Star Jimmy Butler. It hurts losing fan favorite Zach LaVine and promising young point guard Kris Dunn. It was a trade you almost had to do because of LaVine’s ACL injury and a disturbing first season performance from the rookie out of Providence.

It’s good to see those two flourishing with their new team, the Chicago Bulls. Both sides won their trade and for Minnesota, it certainly means a lot more given their past with many failed seasons. It’s not like the trade only affected this season and maybe the next few, but it was a trade that will help Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns from gaining experience from these veterans and soon becoming the staple of the franchise that many have been anticipating since 2015.

As the season unfolds, fans of Minnesota can finally have a different sense as the season ends. It was always fun to watch the team play because we want to see the development of our young players. Now it’ll be an exciting position to see where Minnesota ends in the standings.
