The Wolves end on a high note. In what can only be considered an extremely disappointing season for the Timberwolves, they closed out the 2012-2013 regular season with a 108-95 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night ending a 16 game losing streak in The Alamo Dome. This is also the first time the Wolves have won a season finale since the 2008 season.

The Wolves went into halftime trailing by 6, 61-56. The Wolves came out in the 2nd half hitting their shots and outscored the Spurs 52-34. The Wolves took the lead at the 6:50 mark in the 3rd quarter and never looked back.

The Wolves erupted for a 41% 3 point shooting performance. They also forced the Spurs into 18 turnovers while committing 12. The Wolves got a very efficient offensive performance from Derrick Williams, who finished 7-15 for 21 points. Even with Nikola Pekovic out for the season finale, the Wolves out rebounded the Spurs 45-40.

The Wolves had 6 players in double figures, Chase Budinger netted 15 points while Greg Stiemsma and Ricky Rubio each finished with 12 points. JJ Berea and Dante Cunningham each had 10.

The Spurs, the 2 seed in the West, opted to sit their starters and Manu Ginobili in the second quarter. The best thing on the night for the Spurs was seeing Manu on the floor before the first round of the playoffs.

As I’ve heard John Gordon say many times, “that is all, that is all. There is no more. For all of you listening and I know there are many. That is all, that is all.” Thank you Wolves fans.

The Wolves come up short against the Jazz. The Minnesota Timberwolves finished up thier 3 road games in 4 nights, without Nikola Pekovic, against the Utah Jazz and came up short as they lost 107-100 and dropped to 29-50 on the season. The Jazz (42-38) kept their playoff hopes alive with the victory, as they continue to push for the 8th and final playoff spot as the end of the season nears.

The Wolves were down 103-100 after a Ricky Rubio basket with 14.4 seconds remaining. Minnesota fouled Mo Williams on the inbounds and Williams hit both free throws making it a 2 possession game. The Wolves couldn’t hit on their next possession and the Jazz held on for the victory. The Wolves bench outscored the Jazz bench 48-20 on the night.

Al Jefferson did damage to his former team as he finished with a game high 40 points, which tied his career high. Al went 19-27 from the floor and grabbed 13 rebounds and also dished out 6 assists. Randy Foye and Mo Williams were two of three other Jazz players to finish in double figures as they both posted 16 points, and Paul Milsap had 10.

The Wolves forced the Jazz into 7 more turnovers (18) in the game, yet couldn’t capitalize on the extra shots and finished shooting 46% from the field. The Jazz, as a team, had the hot hand shooting 58% from the field, and 62% from 3, while the Wolves only posted 36% from beyond the arc.

The Wolves did a great job of evenly dispersing the scoring load, as they had 6 players in double figures led by JJ Berea with 23. Rubio had 13 points, while Chase Budinger had 12 and Derrick Williams finished with 11. Both Greg Stiemsma and Luke Ridnour had 10 points to round out the players in double figure for the Wolves.

The Wolves will return to The Target Center on Saturday to host the Phoenix Suns with a 7 o’clock tip.
