The St. Paul Pioneer Press  reported on Thursday that former Timberwolves point guard, Terry Porter, is expected to join Rick Adelman’s coaching staff once the NBA lockout ends.  Porter played under Adelman with the Portland Trailblazers in the late 80′s and early 90′s.  With the  Blazers, he was a 2-time All-Star and also made it to the NBA Finals twice.  After his prime seasons in Portland, Porter then came to the Timberwolves and helped KG & Co. reach the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.  After his playing career, Porter immediately stepped into the coaching ranks.  He has been a head coach twice with the Milwaukee Bucks (2003-05) and Phoenix Suns (2008-09).  Porter was actually the first person to interview for the Timeberwolves head coaching position that was eventually given to Adelman.

Porter would bring a lot of credentials to a franchise in need of some credibility.  The guy could be one of the NBA’s more underrated players during his prime.  He definitely knew how to run a team.  His vast experience at the point guard position should help in developing the young Ricky Rubio.  And it sounds like he will be on the same page with Adelman  on how to bring the young point guard along.
