On Friday, Chris Mannix of SI.com suggested that Kevin Martin would be a “player to keep an eye on” heading into the trade deadline, and that Dallas and Washington are possibilities for the Minnesota Timberwolves’ veteran guard.
There are a few major hurdles to a Kevin Martin trade that we’ll explore in this piece. It’s not to say that he won’t be traded, of course, as the Wolves would absolutely listen on anyone on the roster except Andrew Wiggins and probably Ricky Rubio. But there are players that Flip Saunders would certainly prefer to move (Chase Budinger and Mo Williams, to name a couple), so a Martin trade isn’t as likely as Mannix suggests.
From Martin’s contract to his leadership contributions and shooting ability, the Wolves have some pretty decent incentives to keep the veteran shooting guard around.
