NCAA Tournament Round-Up: Wolves Top Draft Candidates
With the NCAA Tournament wrapped up on Monday night, we were able to see some of the top NBA prospects play for the ultimate college basketball prize. As we inch closer to the NBA Draft, a few names have emerged as top possibilities for the Wolves to spend their high first round pick on.
Jahlil Okafor, Karl-Anthony Towns, D’Angelo Russell, Willie Cauley-Stein and Stanley Johnson are the names of guys that competed in the NCAA Tournament that seem to come up the most when talking about the Minnesota Timberwolves. Clearly, the player the Wolves get will largely depend on the luck of the ping-pong balls in the lottery. As of now, the Wolves own the second-worst record in the NBA at 16-60, giving them roughly a 19% chance of winning the lottery and getting that number one overall selection.

Many will say that the Wolves are ‘due’ for a break in the lottery and, well, they aren’t wrong. According to Real GM, the Timberwolves have never improved their draft position from the lottery once in the team’s history, while their draft position has fallen from the lottery ten times. So, yeah, one could say that the Wolves are due for some luck with the ping-pong balls this season.
For the most part, it seems as if Towns and Okafor as the two fan favorites to eventually be in a Wolves uniform, and I tend to agree. Either one of these players would be a great fit for a Wolves team that could use another interior scoring presence like Towns or Okafor. Additionally, Kevin Garnett would be able to teach the rookie a few things.
