Fit with the Timberwolves:
Jahlil Okafor would be an excellent fit with the Timberwolves at the first overall pick. The Timberwolves are lacking some depth in the power forward and center positions, and Okafor could step in and address that issue right away.
One thing that could make this fit better is if Okafor had some shooters around him on the perimeter, which is an area the Timberwolves are lacking. Okafor showed the ability to find open shooters at Duke, and he had a lot of them at his disposal. Kevin Martin, Shabazz Muhammad, and Chase Budinger seem to be the only three legitimate spot-up perimeter threats on the roster. If the Wolves can grab one or two more threats, it would help Okafor’s progression, should they draft him of course.
Overall, I’m still pro-Towns when it comes to the Towns-Okafor debate, although I’m not at all saying I would be upset with Okafor. The Timberwolves really can’t go wrong with either guy, as both have major upside and the potential to be superstar players. Additionally, as I mentioned in the Towns profile, Kevin Garnett would act as a mentor to Okafor in Minnesota, which is really fun to look forward to.
