Weaknesses:

Offensively, Vaughn’s game has two main concerns. First, his court vision is relatively weak, which isn’t a huge surprise for a shooting guard coming out of college after one season. He should be able to develop that vision and become a solid passer for an NBA shooting guard, but there may be some growing pains in that area.

Another weakness in Vaughn’s offensive game is shot selection. During his season at UNLV, Vaughn was the featured scorer in the offense and he found himself trying too hard to get a shot off sometimes. Instead of letting the game come to him, he would force the issue. This type of play generally doesn’t translate to success in the NBA, so let’s hope Vaughn can grow out of that tendency.

Defensively, Vaughn has many of the same weaknesses as Tyus Jones. His on-ball defense isn’t very good, and he’ll let guys blow by him often. Vaughn isn’t an exceptional athlete, so this may be an even bigger issue at the NBA level.

Vaughn is also poor at defending the pick-and-roll and getting through screens. Again, like Jones, Vaughn tends to get lazy in these situations and rely on his teammates. If Vaughn didn’t have these defensive concerns, he would likely be a mid-first round prospect.
