This is the seventh piece in a series of NBA Draft Profiles that will look at prospects that the Timberwolves have shown interest in and may eventually draft in the 2015 NBA Draft. The seventh profile will look at Emmanuel Mudiay.
Another top-five prospect to keep an eye on in the upcoming NBA Draft is Emmanuel Mudiay, who decided to skip playing college ball to play-for-pay overseas in the Chinese Basketball Association. Mudiay had initially committed to play at SMU under Larry Brown.
While it doesn’t seem likely that the Timberwolves will be interested in drafting Mudiay with the first overall pick, it’s noteworthy that the Wolves do seem to be interested in attending a workout with Mudiay. This is from Darren Wolfson of KSTP Sports and ESPN 1500 yesterday.
There has been some speculation that the Wolves would consider trading Ricky Rubio, which would make the proposition of drafting a point guard like D’Angelo Russell or Mudiay much more interesting. However, I don’t see a Rubio trade happening and I frankly don’t see it as a good idea.
Anyway, Mudiay does possess some star potential and whichever team does wind up with him will get a player with pro experience and some incredible athleticism.
