Malik Newman, Shooting Guard, Mississippi State

Newman grew up in Jackson, Mississippi and played his high school ball there. The incoming freshman was ranked as the number-one shooting guard in his class by ESPN and was #10 overall. He chose Mississippi State, who went just 13-19 last year, over perennial powerhouses Kentucky and Kansas, among others.

Newman is a proven scorer, as he led the USA U17 team in scoring en route to a gold medal in the FIBA World Championship in 2014. Kevin Martin is a trade candidate once again, and if he is moved, that would leave the Wolves with only LaVine at shooting guard. Newman could provide depth at the position and could be an explosive scorer off the bench.
