#18 – Ricky Rubio (Finally) Arrives In Minneapolis
Ricky Rubio was drafted fifth-overall in 2009. At the time, it seemed possible if not likely that he would stay overseas and continue to play in Europe, where he had been playing professionally since the age of 14.
Ultimately, due to a combination of a hefty buyout, a good situation in Europe, and quite possibly some posturing from his agent in trying to get the Timberwolves to move Rubio to a larger market, it was a solid two years before the Spaniard made his way stateside to join his new squad.
The scene was equal parts optimistic and surreal for Wolves fans who had waited seemingly forever for the supposed savior. And regardless of what expectations were at the time, Rubio has turned out to be a top-flight point guard in the NBA.
