#16 – Hosting the 1994 NBA All-Star Game at Target Center
The Timberwolves began play in the 1989-1990 season and moved into the Target Center in downtown Minneapolis for the 1990-91 campaign after opening in the Metrodome on the other side of town.
The NBA rewarded one of it’s four expansion franchises All-Star Weekend in 1994. It came around the same time that there were whispers about the franchise being sold and moved to a different market, prior to Minnesota native Glen Taylor purchasing the team.
The weekend featured the Timberwolves’ own Isaiah Rider winning the slam dunk competition before Scottie Pippen of the Chicago Bulls led the Western Conference All-Stars to a 127-118 victory by dropping 29 points and 11 rebounds and taking home MVP honors.
