#15 – Isaiah Rider’s East Bay Funk Dunk

We’re going to split some hairs here and call Isaiah Riders’ East Bay Funk Dunk and dunk championship it’s own event, while the 1994 All-Star Weekend itself that was hosted in Minneapolis may just come up again on our list.

“JR” Rider was an enigma after being drafted fifth-overall by the Timberwolves in the 1993 NBA Draft after attending UNLV. He struggled through his first couple of seasons in the NBA, although his scoring numbers were impressive simply by virtue of sheer volume.

Rider played more than 35 minutes per game on a 21-win Wolves team in 1993-94, meaning that he managed to average 20.4 points per contest despite shooting just 44.7 percent from the field in his sophomore year in the NBA. He only played three total seasons in Minnesota before hitting his stride as a role player and decent three-point threat in Portland in the latter part of the decade.

And while this dunk was the best thing he did in a Timberwolves uniform, it sure was a thing of beauty.
