#13 – Kevin Garnett Returns to the Timberwolves
When Flip Saunders agreed to send Thaddeus Young to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for a 38 year-old Kevin Garnett, well, it didn’t make much sense at all from a basketball perspective.
But from an off-court and less tangible angle, the (re)acquisition of the best player in franchise history made plenty of sense to Saunders and his staff. Garnett’s reputation as a hard-worker precedes him, and in certain situation he’s done a great job as a mentor of sorts to a variety of young players on the Wolves, Boston Celtics, and the Nets.
Once the question of whether or not this trade was truly maximizing the Wolves’ aspects, there was an emotional and nostalgic aspect to the move that couldn’t be ignored. Indeed, The Big Ticket’s return to Target Center in a Timberwolves uniform was electric and won’t soon be forgotten.
