30 Greatest Moments In Timberwolves History

#25 – Timberwolves Draw 49,551 Fans For 1990 Home Game
The 1989-90 Minnesota Timberwolves weren’t good, nor were they expected to be as a first-year expansion team.
They went 22-60 under head coach Bill Musselman and they played in the cavernous Metrodome, a stadium built for football and for some reason, baseball. But the Wolves called the Dome home until the Target Center was built, and there were some memorable moments there.
That includes the fourth-largest crowd in NBA history. On April 17, 1990, the Wolves hosted the Denver Nuggets and drew a crowd of 49,551 at the Metrodome. The only game to draw more people since then was Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls taking on the Atlanta Hawks in the Georgia Dome in March of 1998.
The game was a 99-89 victory for the visiting Nuggets and included the likes of Pooh Richardson, Tony Campbell, Tyrone Corbin, and Minnesota native Randy Breuer for the Wolves, not to mention current head coach Sam Mitchell and assistant Sidney Lowe, who both came off the bench for the home team.
It was part of a record-setting attendance year for the Timberwolves and the NBA as well, as we’ll touch on some more later in the countdown.
