Top 10 Draft Picks in Timberwolves History
By Ben Beecken
#10 – Randy Foye, Villanova, #7 in 2006 draft, acquired in draft night trade with Boston for Brandon Roy (#6 pick)
In the years immediately following the 2006 NBA Draft, it appeared obvious that the Timberwolves got the short-end of the stick in the Roy-for-Foye swap. Roy made the All-Star team in his second year at the age of 23 as well as in his age-24 and age-25 seasons. He averaged 20.2 points per game in his first four years in the league before chronic knee problems flared up and ruined his once-promising career.
Roy retired at the age of 26 before un-retiring and playing for the Wolves as a 28 year-old but retired again. Foye is still playing and has generally been a decent rotation player. Plus, he was traded along with Mike Miller for the pick that became Ricky Rubio in 2009.
At any rate, a career-long rotation player that netted a solid return in a trade for Minnesota is indeed the ninth-best draft pick in Timberwolves history.
