Top 10 Draft Picks in Timberwolves History
By Ben Beecken
#6 – Karl-Anthony Towns, Kentucky, #1 in 2015
In all honesty, Towns could probably be placed in the top-three draft picks in Wolves history already, despite only playing in 19 games in the infancy of his NBA career. That’s a snapshot at just how fantastic Towns has been as well as an indictment on the Timberwolves’ draft history — and yes, it can most certainly be both.
Of course, we aren’t trying to jinx anybody here, and let’s not short-change the players that have been good over a longer period of time that are ranked ahead of KAT. But Towns is already the sixth-best draft pick in Wolves history, and he just turned 20 years old and has all of 19 career NBA games under his belt heading into Monday night’s showdown with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Our own Justin Schardin broke down Towns in comparison with the other rookies across the league late last week. Check that piece out, but in short, he’s easily the best rookie in the league and is historically great through five weeks. Not very many rookies will be managing 14.6 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks in just 27.7 minutes per game, even if it is only through 19 games.
Yes, it’s insanely early, but things are certainly headed in the right direction.
