Trade possibilities for Timberwolves’ Shabazz Muhammad

Wolves trade Muhammad to Detroit for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Wolves also receive Robert Covington from Philadelphia in exchange for Kevin Martin and a draft pick (ESPN Trade Machine)

Why Detroit says “yes”: Muhammad could probably come in and start at small forward for the Pistons as they are fairly weak at that position. Muhammad would have a chance to get extended playing time, and it wouldn’t set Detroit back in terms of a “rebuild” considering Muhammad fits right into their young, talented group.

Why Philadelphia says “yes”: In order for Philadelphia to give up Covington, the Wolves would probably need to give up a draft pick along with Martin. What they get in Martin as a scorer, adding to the Sixers’ atrocious offense. Plus, a draft pick or two. They like those.

Why Minnesota says “yes”: Covington is a solid stretch post who can play either power forward small forward. He has the ability to become a really good player in this league.

Next: The Case for Gorgui Dieng

As for KCP, he has struggled to find his footing in Detroit in his rookie season. However, he has found his stride so far this year, averaging 13.2 points per game. Caldwell-Pope can also shoot the three fairly well, of course, which would help the Wolves immensely.
