#15 – December 13, 2013 – Kevin Love: 42 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists, one steal
Early in the 2013-14 season there was still a high level of optimism regarding the Timberwolves playoff chances. Kevin Love was a bonafide superstar, Ricky Rubio was finally mostly healthy, and Rick Adelman was still coaching.
Heading into the December 13th contest in San Antonio, the Wolves’ record stood at 11-11. They played extremely well for the first three quarters of the game, leading by seven points heading into the final frame.
But the Spurs outscored Minnesota by a 37-21 margin in the fourth quarter, and Kevin Love’s 42 points and 14 rebounds were wasted.
Love also shot a crazy 8 of 9 from beyond the arc in the loss while not receiving much help from the rest of the squad. Nikola Pekovic put up 18 points and 11 rebounds and Rubio managed 15 points, 9 assists, and 4 steals, but that’s about it.
The Timberwolves finished the 2013-14 season with a 40-42 record and late-game collapses were certainly a recurring theme throughout the campaign.
