Minnesota Timberwolves: Top 30 Scorers in Franchise History
By Ben Beecken
#6 – Tom Gugliotta
Gugliotta also played three and a half seasons in a Timberwolves uniform, averaging 18.2 points and 8.5 rebounds per game alongside a blossoming Kevin Garnett from 1995 through 1998.
He only played in 80+ games twice in his career: once as a rookie with the Washington Bullets, and once as a 27 year-old All-Star with the 1996-97 Timberwolves. That also happened to be the first year of eight consecutive seasons in which the Wolves made the playoffs during the initial Kevin Garnett/Flip Saunders era.
Gugliotta had a versatile offensive game and was somewhat ahead of his time as a stretch-four. He was solid on the glass and an above-average defender, giving the Garnett-Gugliotta pairing some real bite against opposing forwards.
He was allowed to walk as a free agent in the summer of 1998 and signed a sizable deal with the Phoenix Suns. He had a couple of good years in his age-29 and age-30 seasons before succumbing to a series of injuries, ultimately playing his last NBA game for the Atlanta Hawks in 2005.
