Minnesota Timberwolves: Top 30 Scorers in Franchise History
By Ben Beecken
#1 – Kevin Garnett
Not much needs to be said here, as Garnett has scored 19,153 career points — nearly 12,000 more than Sam Mitchell, who holds down second-place in total points in Wolves franchise history.
Garnett could score in any way he wanted during his prime, although his signature move was a turnaround baseline jumper, or catching and shooting from the mid-range on a reversal of the ball. He also had an outstanding pump fake and was long and athletic enough to drive to the basket and score over and around defenders in the lane.
KG never attempted more than 1.4 three-pointers per game, but he did shoot 37 percent from beyond the arc back in 1999-2000. It was an aspect of his game that he was good enough at to keep the defense honest, but it simply wasn’t a centerpiece of the NBA around the turn of the century, and especially not of Flip Saunders’ complicated offensive sets.
Garnett was league MVP in 2004 and led the Wolves to the Western Conference Finals that same year. He’s continuing to accumulate points and add to his lead atop Wolves franchise leaders, however glacially that pace might be now in his age-39 season.
But any Wolves-related list has to end with The Big Ticket on top, and here we are.
