Timberwolves’ Season Grades

Brandon Rush: C-
When Zach LaVine got injured, Rush was hurled into the starting spot. He really isn’t a starter at all. He took the role he was handed and was able to keep the Wolves afloat.
The only problem is, that for a starter, he did not put up a lot of numbers. He averaged 4.1 points per game while playing 22 minutes per game. Not good.
He didn’t play horrible defense this season. Not great defense, but he was probably one of the better perimeter defenders on the Wolves. His defense is better that Zach LaVine’s but, hey, that’s not really saying much.
Back to what really matters, offense. 4.1 points per game as a starter. That’s awful. He’s supposed to be this three-point specialist and he only took 2.4 threes per game making only 0.9 of those. If he wants to contribute more on offense, he needs to take more shots. If he could take around six three-pointers per game, he would become a problem for opposing defenses.
His free throw percentage could also improve. He shot 72.2 percent from the free throw line, which would be good if he was a 6’10” power forward. Rush isn’t a power forward though, he’s a 6’6” guard. He really needs to focus on free throws because they can be the difference between a win and a loss.
Brandon Rush also was playing in a role that wasn’t suited for him. He was signed to be a player off the bench that can shoot the ball. No one was expecting him to be a starter. Excuses aside, he still did not have a good season. While he didn’t have a good season, you can’t be mad at the guy. He was thrown into his role.
C- shows that he gave his best effort but he couldn’t get it done.
