Timberwolves’ Season Grades
By Alex Swendig
Zach LaVine: B+
Unfortunately, we can only talk about Zach LaVine’s first half of the season.
He only played 47 games due to a torn ACL. In those 47 games, however, he was superb. He scored 18.9 points per game on 45.9 percent shooting. That’s a big jump from last season scoring 14.0 points per game.
LaVine was able to prove to the league that he was much more than a player who excelled at competing in dunk contests. He worked hard all summer and continued to morph his play into an all-around game.
The Timberwolves’ season never really had a chance once LaVine went down with an injury. He was a complimentary third scorer to Wiggins and Towns and helped to take some of the pressure off them.
Even though LaVine’s three-point shooting percentage stayed the same as last year, he attempted 1.4 more three’s per game. That is good news for LaVine because usually when players begin to take more shots in a game their percentage goes down.
It’s a real bummer that he’s injured, but he’s a tough player and will be looking to have an even better season next year.
This season he really raised the bar and showed that he is a serious scorer in this league.
