Minnesota Timberwolves: 5 Worst Games Of The Season
3. December 9th vs Detroit Pistons
The Minnesota Timberwolves got absolutely embarrassed on their home floor against the Detroit Pistons. They lost by 27 points, 117-90, marking the second biggest loss for the Wolves in the 2016-17 season.
The other game came on the road against the defending NBA Champions so that gives the Wolves half a pass.
In this blowout, Minnesota actually led for nine minutes and 39 seconds, making the 27 point loss all that more impressive from a Pistons’ standpoint.
At halftime, the Piston’s only led 49-43. Detroit then went on a huge second half run, outscoring the Timberwolves 68-47 over the game’s final 24 minutes.
The Wolves big three of LaVine, Towns, and Wiggins were particularly bad in this game as well. They combined to score just 44 points on 18/40 shooting. That is a huge blow to a team who relied so heavily on those three to score throughout the season.
This game also occurred in the midst of a four-game losing streak and contributed to the Timberwolves’ early season woes.
This game makes the list due to the opponent it happened against and where it happened, the Target Center. The Piston’s finished the season with a 37-45 record and missing the playoffs in the East.
