Andrew Wiggins – The Silent Assassin

Andrew Wiggins, the number one overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft, had all intentions of playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers before being traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The deal was between Minnesota and Cleveland which basically sent love to Cleveland for Andrew Wiggins, a future All-Star who played one year at Kansas.

While coming out of High School, some called Wiggins, “Maple Jordan“, comparing him to Michael Jordan and LeBron James.

He earned that name because of his unbelievable amount of potential that many feel he has yet to reach.

Yes, he has never averaged anything lower than 16.9 points per game in his young career.

Yes, he has also increased his scoring average each year so far, reaching 23.6 this year.

But Wiggins still has more killer instinct inside him that we are waiting to see come pouring out.

He has the potential to erupt and go on a scoring spree which leaves us in awe. We saw him score 40 or more points in five games this season and 30 or more in nine games.

That’s not enough! We as fans see the potential and need more.

Now is it fair for us to want so much at such a young age?

That’s possible seeing as it took Kawhi Leonard three years before he started to be the superstar that we know him as today.

Leonard came in the league better on defense but didn’t compare offensively to Wiggins. I do believe Wiggins will continue to grow and reach that superstar status we are waiting for but it will start with defense first.

Comparison

Paul George

Paul George is an offensive guru similar to what Wiggins is slowly becoming. Now if Wiggins can begin to bring out that defense potential we know is there, look for him to be better than George real soon.
