Philadelphia gets: 6th overall pick

Minnesota gets: Dario Saric, Robert Covington

Philadelphia hasn’t been shy about trading players coming off of good rookie seasons. And with a chance to land three of the top six picks in a loaded draft, they might do it again.

This seems like more of a Sam Hinkie move and 76ers general manager Bryan Colangelo might be against shipping out his rookie of the year candidate so soon.

They also have the uncertainty of Joel Embiid being able to stay on the court looming over their heads.

Having more picks only increases the chances that they’ll land another superstar to put next to Embiid and  Ben Simmons. Saric and Covington were valuable pieces to their 28-win season, but neither has stardom written on them.

For Minnesota, this solves two dilemmas.

One, Saric is able to space the floor next to Towns and could take Minnesota’s tenth ranked offense to another level. Saric shot 31% from three during his rookie season, while getting used to the length of the NBA 3-point line. Two, with Covington, they would add a capable three and D player to their rotation, giving them some much-needed depth. Covington

Two, with Covington, they would add a capable three and D player to their rotation, giving them some much-needed depth. Covington led the league in deflections per game, and his effort alone would help improve Minnesota’s defense.

The other benefit to this trade is that Saric and Covington are both on very cheap contracts. Depending what they do with some of their free agents, this could still leave the Wolves with max cap space while making their roster more attractive to potential free agents.
