2. Diamonds and Pearls
If Prince saw this year’s incoming draft, he wouldn’t have to change a word of this 1991 classic to describe them.
Will the Wolves find a diamond in the rough with their sixth pick?
There will be plenty of talent on the board when the Wolves select sixth, seventh, eighth, or ninth in June’s draft.
According to the StarTribune’s Jerry Zgoda, President of Basketball Operations Thibs intends to address the Wolves’ needs—shooting, wing defense, interior defense or some combination of the three.
The jury is still out on what last year’s draftee, Kris Dunn, will become. Based on the lack of shooting and play-making he displayed this year, a defensive specialist—a la Tony Allen—may be his ceiling.
Of course, luck may strike for the Wolves and the team may improve their draft position for the first time in franchise history.
If that’s the case, the team will have an opportunity to select a “Pearl”—Markelle Fultz, Lonzo Ball, or Josh Jackson—or flip the pick in a package for an impact veteran.
Even the Purple One would enjoy those prospects.
