18. Craig Smith

Craig Smith, also known as The Rhino or The Cookie Monster, was a nice get for the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2006 NBA draft.

He was selected out of Boston College with the sixth pick in the second-round and ended up being a sneaky steal for the Timberwolves.

Smith had an excellent career at Boston College and finished second on their all-time scoring list with 2,349 points.

Although Smith’s career wasn’t as long as the two players behind him on this list, his impact was greater in a shorter period of time.

He played three seasons with the Timberwolves, averaging 8.9 points and 4.5 rebounds.

He ultimately earned the nickname “The Rhino” because of his muscular build. At 6 feet 7 inches tall and 250 pounds, Smith was not to be reckoned with on the court.

Craig Smith earned rookie honors in 2006-07 when he made the All-Rookie Second Team after averaging 7.4 points and 5.1 rebounds.

He carried his strong rookie performance into the Las Vegas summer league. There he averaged 21.8 points and six rebounds per game.

Smith’s best scoring year of his career came during his third season in the league when he averaged 10.1 points per game.

This ultimately increased his value on the trade market and led to the Timberwolves shipping him off in the summer to acquire Quintin Richardson.

Smith would only last three more seasons in the NBA, playing two of them with the Los Angeles Clippers.

He finished his career with the Portland Trail Blazers playing very sporadically.
