Minnesota Timberwolves: Mock Lottery Draft 1.0
The Sacramento Kings ended up with the 10th overall pick from the DeMarcus Cousins trade. Since the Pelicans pick didn’t land in the top three, it gets sent to Sacramento.
The Kings then decide to grab Frank Ntilikina as the first player in the NBA draft who didn’t attend college.
Ntilikina, the youngest player in the draft, has the potential to be a top-five pick but the Kings get lucky and grab him at 10th overall here.
At 6-foot-5, Ntilikina is in line with the other top guards in this draft. The NBA certainly seems to be transitioning to bigger points who can see over the defense. However, he may be longer than the other points as he is reported to have a 7-foot wingspan.
As it currently stands, the Kings do not have a true point guard on their roster. Darren Collison and Ty Lawson are both unrestricted free agents this summer so Sacramento needs to fill this void.
Even if they do decide to bring back Collison or Lawson, both of them are 6-feet or under. Bringing in a taller point guard may help on defense and also give the Kings an opportunity to play two point guards at the same time.
Ntilikina does need to get stronger but he could play alongside Buddy Hield in the future as well.
The Kings have another selection in this draft and I have a feeling Ntilikina will be a good pair with the Kings first pick.
