Defensive Wing

The Timberwolves struggle mightily on the defensive end, although most of that is due to the inexperience of the players on the wing; Wiggins and LaVine will improve under Tom Thibodeau.

Howvever, the Timberwolves should still look for some immediate help in free agency from an established defensive wing. This would also prove to be beneficial for the two young wings as they can learn from the free agent.

Solution A: Andre Iguodala

This isn’t the first time that we’ve mentioned this name in this article and it won’t be the last — he’s just that good of a fit if he’s available.

He’s won a Finals MVP mostly due to his defensive efforts on the best player in the world. In addition, he has made two appearances on NBA All-Defensive Teams. Needless to say, his credentials speak for themselves. Iguodala would give Thibodeau a guy to confidently take the toughest assignment every game and mentor the young core.

Solution B: P.J. Tucker

He might not be the flashiest name on the market, but Tucker loves to do the dirty work. This is is especially true on the defensive end where he brings great intensity consistently and a blue collar mentality. He’d also bring intensity and passion on that, which the Timberwolves seem to lack at times.

Solution C: Luc Richard Mbah a Moute

You may recall that the last time Mbah a Moute was on this team, it was very frustrating. He was already clearly a great defensive player, however his offense would completely offset his contributions on that end.

This season, he shot 39 precent from behind the arc and has been able to earn enough playing time to display how great a defensive asset he truly is on the court. He would definitely help this team on that side provided he can remain solid enough on offense to remain on the floor.
